Research Paper

Students have completed the first part of the research unit. After selecting and narrowing an approved topic and conducting some preliminary research (Annotated Bibliography), students will begin to extract specific information from their acquired sources. However, their is currently no avalibility in the English writing lab. I am trying to secure another lab.

If lab availability continues to be an issue, students will need to conduct the second half of the unit outside the classroom. I will make that decision by the end of this week.

Research Project

Since availability in our writing lab and media center are quickly filling up, we are compelled to begin our research unit immediately. Thus, we will push back the start of Lord of the Flies until the middle of March.

Today Objectives:

Research Basics---> Students will extract major concepts pertaining to research skills from a video. The same information my be found in the attached research guide: Download ResearchGuide1Document 

Students will then attempt to brainstorm about a potential topic for research. Our main objective will be to narrow the scope of a given proposed topic.

HOMEWORK:

1. Prepare for unit four vocabulary quiz and complete all related exercises.
2. Create and submit two potential research topics.

Antigone:

We will complete the play by the end of class tomorrow. Students are identifying specific examples of hubris displayed by Creon. The beginning of next week students will compose an essay comparing King Creon with Julius Caesar.
