GREAT JOB on Tuesday with the Socratic circles. First block and second block did well analyzing ideas and getting passionate about what your reading. It's amazing how passionate discussion can tremendously increase understanding.
I am sorry to say that I will be out today. My daughter has pink eye and cannot go to daycare. Mrs. Williams will sub. To stay on schedule, she is going to show you a power point, and I want you guys to work together in order to try and make meaning of the 3 types of clauses. I know the powerpoint has 'lines' drawn in such a way that it seems initially confusing; but take time to understand the ideas (and look at the semicolon I just used, and yes you can begin an independent clause with the word 'but'). We will go over the clauses and handouts on Thur. Don't forget your letters of intent. Bring them Thur and we will try to edit.

I hope you guys are ready to talk today..... -1984 Quiz -Rage Against the Machine -Socratic Groups: As a group, you will want to come to a documented conclusion to the following questions / prompts. Each prompt / questions requires an answer and at least one quote. 1) Prediction: Based on your understanding of the following characters, predict how they will develop throughout the entire novel. These predictions must be supported by quotes. In other words, if you predict that Winston and the Dark-haired girl with the Jr. Anti Sex league sash will get married, you must have a quote from book 1 which supports that they may potentially like one another. The characters you must predict are Winston, Mr. Charrington, Julia (dark-haired girl with sash, O.Brien, Emmanuel Goldstein, Mr. Parsons. 2) Explain and support Winston’s statement: “If there is hope, it lies with the Proles”. 3) Why do the Proles stay in their current social position? What does Big Brother do in order to keep the Proles in this social position? 4) Who has a better life: Party Members or Proles? (You will want more than one quote) 5) Will Winston ever fight back against the Party? How and Why? 6) Is Winston a brave man waiting for the right moment or a weak man who is afraid to stand up for what he believes? (You will want more than one quote)
