APUSH: Unit #3 - Schedule for the Week of January 30th - February 3rd

APUSH Students....

Please be prepared to complete the following this week:

1.  Read Chapter 7 (textbook) - Be prepared to discuss and complete daily quiz Monday & Tuesday.

2.  Read Chapter 8 (textbook) - Be prepared to discuss and complete daily quiz on Wednesday & Thursday.

3.  Read Chapter 9 (textbook) - Be prepared to discuss and complete daily quiz on Friday and Monday (following).

4.  Complete the assigned Historic Documents (read individually and complete as a group) - Due: Tuesday, January 31st for all four reading groups.  All groups should have their PPTs ready to present by Tuesday.  All four groups should be ready to present their documents any day this week.

5.  Complete a Historic Essay (see me to get a rubric for details) for Unit #3 (this could be a pop-essay or assigned essay covering topics from either Chapter 7, Chapter 8, or Chapter 9).

6.  Use Bare Bones #3 as a reference for Quiz #3 or "Quest" will be scheduled for Tuesday, February 7th.

7.  Turn in your maps for Unit #3 on the Bare Bones - Due: Wednesday, February 8th.

8.  Complete separate historical documents activity on Friday and Monday-following.

9.  Complete DBQ #1 over topic discussed in Chapters 1-9 on Tuesday, February 7th.

10. Complete Test #1 (Units 1-3, Chapters 1-9) on Wednesday, February 8th.

11. Complete the Outside Reading Test on Friday, February 17th.  I need to confirm this week what each student is reading.

APUSH Students...

Attached is a copy of the following assignments:

1. Historic Interview (Personal Intreview - typed paper with questions/answers, introduction, and conclusion)

DUE: Monday, April 23rd

- Decide who to interview (someone over the age of 50 who can recall information about the 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s).

- Using the attached list of questions on the rubric, select 35 of the 47 questions to conduct the interview.

- Type an introduction about the decades (include important people, events, etc.) as well as some background on the person you chose to interview.

- Type all of the 47 questions and type omit next to the 12 questions not being used.

- You must use a minimum of five questions per decade, but should use as many as you can to complete the 35 required questions for the interview.

- Type a conclusion on what you learned historically by researching and conducting the interview.

 

2. Decade Project (Group Presentation - PowerPoint, visuals, music, dressed-up as part of the decade, decorations, etc.)

DUE: Wednesday, May 16th - (PowerPoint, agenda, and types of visuals presented to the class).

PRESENTATIONS: Each of the four decade groups will present on one of the following days - Thursday, Friday, Monday and Tuesday (May 17th, 18th, 21st, and 22nd)

- As a group, decide which of the following decades to cover: 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, or 1990s.

- Using the attached rubric, begin research on your decade (group members should work individually or in pairs to conduct research and begin organize one collaborative PPT).

- Some library time will be given, but students should be preprared to work outside of school on this activity.

- Two of the assigned tasks on the rubric require you to be creative in finding a topic not listed about your decade.

- On the day of the presenatation (see calendar for your decade), be prepared to decorate the room with visuals related to your decade (NO FOOD should be brought in as part of the presentation) and come dressed the part (if not dressed to fit the decade, wear business attire).

APUSH: 2012 Spring Calendar - Updated

APUSH Students...

Attached is a copy of the updated calendar for 2012 with a few changes and editing.  Please discard the old calendar and print a copy of this one for your records.  Note the specific changes of dates for Test #4 and Quiz #12 (as well as the week before and after Spring Break and during the month of May).

I have also requested library time for the use of computers so you can have some time meeting as a group for the Decade Project (presentation) scheduled after the AP and EOCT exams.  You can use the time to research and/or collaborate on information for your presentations.  As a group, be thinking what decade you would like to present (1960s, 1970s, 1980s, or 1990s).

APUSH: U.S. History End-of-Course-Test (EOCT) Review

APUSH Students...

Attached is a copy of the EOCT Study Guide for United States History related to the Georgia Performance Standards (GPS).  The guide is in the form of questions divided by five "Domains" covering one or more eras in United States history.  In addition, the study guide contains twenty-five "Standards" (each standard contains 3-5 "Elements" that describe what you need to do to master the standard). 

Please do the following: 

(1) Print off a copy of the EOCT study guide for yourself and place in your notebook. 

(2) As we complete APUSH standards this semester that relate to the topics on the EOCT Study Guide, attempt to answer the questions and keep your answers to each of the questions in your notebook.  Highlight your questions once you complete the answer.

(3) Review the guide periodically (and begin using USATestPrep a few weeks before the EOCT). 

It really is to your advantage to maintain the information on the study guide as it should ensure a good score on the EOCT (your goal should be 92% or better on the EOCT).  Most APUSH students do well on the EOCT, but some time preparing for it will be necessary to meet the goal.

The EOCT is scheduled for May 14-15 (Monday-Tuesday) and is 15% of your final grade.

Attached is a copy of the study guide for Test #2.  The test is scheduled for Tuesday.  In preparation of the test, there will be study session in my room both on Monday and Tuesday mornings from 7:40-8:10.  On Monday, I will be holding a session a review and on Tuesday Coach Rogers will be holding a review session.

Dear Parents & Students...

Attached is a copy of four items: Bare Bones #2, Portfolio #2, and GPS Project #2.

Bare Bones:

This covers the Georgia Performance Standards (GPS) for Unit #2 in question format.  Students will have the choice to complete the highlighted terms and not answer the questions.  Or, students can complete each of the GPS questions on the Bare Bones.  The vocabulary quizzes taken each unit will be taken from the Bare Bones which is why these should be completed before the day of the quiz.  They will be due the day of the unit test.

Portfolio:

This is a set of assignments students will complete.  Assignments will generally consist of maps, timelines, on-line assignments, unit-specific questions, study guides for the test, and a variety of activities.  This will be due the day of the unit test.

GPS Project:

This is the unit project (related directly to the standards) in which students will create a product which is unit and "standard" specific.  Students will have an opportunity to work individually, in a pair, or in groups with up to six students.  Students will have a choice to create historic newscasts, newspapers, lyrics to songs (or poems), picturebooks, graphic organizers, etc.  This assignment will be completed in both the library and at home.  The GPS Project will be due the day of the test.  Students who volunteer (or are assigned) to present to the class as a review will have the GPS Project due the day before the test.  The presentation will be assessed as part of the grade for the GPS Project and will work as a review for all students in class.  Students will be required to complete a minimum of three presentations (one every four units).

GPS Project Rubric:

The GPS Project - Rubric was distributed to students on the first day of the semester and will need to keep in the front of student notebooks (binders).  Students will refer to this rubric to determine what type of assignment they want to complete for each unit's GPS Project.

U.S. History: Test #1 - Study Session (Monday, January 23rd, 7:40-8:10 am)

To Parents & Students....

There will be a study session for Test #1 (Standards = SSUSH1, SSUSH2, & SSUSH3) on Monday from (7:40-8:10).  Please bring your completed Test #1 Study Guide and verify answers as we review the questions on the Study Guide.

Note: Your Study Guide for Unit #1 is part of your Portfolio grade and should be attempted and completed to turn in on Monday with the Bare Bones.  Students out on Friday are expected to take Test #1 on Monday and have the Bare Bones, Portfolio, and GPS Project completed.  Each day work is late is -10 points per day and will receive a grade of zero after three days.
