Dear Students & Parents....
I wanted to welcome all students who will be taking A.P. United States History (APUSH) in the Spring of 2012! I am looking forward to an exciting semester as students prepare to take the APUSH exam on May 11th and prepare for an End-of-Course-Test (EOCT) on May 14th and May 15th.
Items to acquire for the course and bring everyday to class:
1. textbook (America: A Narrative)
2. notebook (2-inch notebook with dividers is recommended)
3. pens (blue/black ink - must use to write in-class DBQs/FRQs)
4. colored pencils (used for map quizzes)
5. #2 pencils (on test and quiz days)
6. college-rule paper
The APUSH calendar for Spring 2012 is attached so that students and parents can review to see when specific units will be covered. The calendar also includes unit quiz dates, test dates, and due dates for various assignments this semester. Students are encouraged to print off the first month for their notebook. Review the entire semester to be sure you know when quizzes, tests, the APUSH Exam, and EOCT will be given. Please keep in mind, the calendar will probably change a few times and that this is a guide for students to use. If any changes do occur, students will be notified of the changes. Other features on the calendar include the Georgia Perfomance Standards (GPS) for the course, the Advanced Placement Standards (APS) for APUSH, and the presidents covered on the President Study Guide (PSG).
The 2012 spring semester officially begins on Tuesday, January 10th, but students have the option to begin reading ahead using their textbook. In addition, the break would be a great time to become familar with the Bare Bones (see attached copy of Bare Bones #1). The Bare Bones will contain most of the information covered in a given unit. There are terms, timelines, topics, and maps which will be covered in class. The Bare Bones will not be graded this semester for a daily grade like in previous semesters. Instead, the information covered on the Bare Bones will be graded (almost daily) in the form of daily quizzes over terms, timelines, maps, and topics from the textbook (chapter readings).
In preparing for the beginning of the semester, students should become familar with the textbook website. It contains information regarding terms, topics, timelines, and maps. Students can also use the website to review terms and quizzes. Here is a copy of the website for your textbook:

Assignment for the break to be completed by Tuesday, January 10th:
1. Please read Chapter 1 and be prepared to discuss (and potentially write) on a topic from Chapter 1 ~ The Collision of Cultures" on the first day of school (Tuesday, January 10th).
2. Your "Outside Reading Test" will be in February. Please try to pick up a copy of one of the three books on our APUSH reading list (see previous Blog posting for books or email me about choosing a book). Remember, just read one of the three outside readings. ALL students are required to be tested from one of the three reading (everyone will be tested on the same day).
