APUSH Students....
Here is the schedule for Week #8 and part of Week #9 so that you can plan your readings, assignments, and assessments accordingly. We will complete Unit #6 (Chapters 16-18) by this Friday and assess on Monday with Unit Quiz #6 (Chapters 16-18).
Students are encouraged to prepare for Test #2 (Units 4-6, Chapters 10-18) which will be completed on Wednesday, March 14th. The study guide for Test #2 has been on the Blog for several weeks and students should bring the study guide to class to help answer topics found on the test. I have extended the test one more day so as to prepare using the Test #2 - Study Guide.
Document-based Question (DBQ) #2 will be completed Friday, March 16th over a selected topic from Units 4-6 (1793-1877). I wanted to remind students that the purpose of writing the DBQ in class is to prepare the student for using a set of documents associated with a question over a specific period or theme in United States history. The use of very "specific" outside knowledge (dates, events, personalities, etc. found in the readings and on the Bare Bones) is key to writing an effective DBQ. The ability to use that "specific" outside information in relation to the documents is equally important. Review the handout on writing a DBQ that was given to you at the beginning of the semester. Most of you have done well so far this semester with your writings and the DBQ should be treated like the FRQ except for the incorporation and use of the documents in the eassy.
Students are encouraged to print off Presidents Study Guide #2 to begin using this week (and next week) in both class discussions and presidents videos. Students should take notes "in class" and are not required to type out the information on the study guide (though, the more information, review, and knowledge gained through the study of the presidents will provide additional information for the student which could be used on the AP U.S. History exam and the End-of-Course Test). As a class, students did well in completing this assignment and many of you did very well on the assessment demonstrating your understanding of the first eleven presidents. The second Presidents Study Guide will be due in a few weeks upon completion of the notes through the end of Chapter 22.
Please print this schedule out and keep up with the assigned readings, document presentations, and assessments. This week will be mainly lecture and discussion with activites planned each day to encourage student participation.
