Math 2 with Support Week #3 1/23 - 1/27

Monday 1/23

    Mitchell Group

  • We went over the homework and answered questions.
  • Students got in to their quads to do more practice of writing absolute value equations as piecewise functions: Download 5 - Writing Absolute Value Eqn as Piecewise Functions
  • CW workbook p. 53 #12 - 14.  We went over these in class.
  • Students then took a daily check over this material.
  • HW textbook p. 51 #12 - 14 and p. 52 #8 - 10

GPS Algebra Week #3 1/23 - 1/27

Monday 1/23  Types of Sampling & Biased/Unbiased

  • Handed back the placement test and quiz.  We went over questions about the quiz.
  • I also checked the homework.  58% of the class did not attempt any of the hw.
  • Students took a daily check over measures of central tendencies.  The daily check provided the definitions of the key vocabulary.
  • We went over the Spinner Task in class:  Download 8 - Spinner Task v2
  • Students took notes over the vocabulary of sampling.  We went over examples too (see notes).  Download 9 - Types of Sampling and biased vs unbiased
  • CW workbook p. 380 #1 - 11.  We went over these in class.
  • HW textbook p. 361 #1 - 11

Tuesday 1/24  Mean Absolute Deviation (m.a.d.)

  • Discussed the homework and handed back the daily check.
  • Daily check over spinners, expected value, and sampling.  Only a few performed well on this.
  • Notes on m.a.d. including EOCT type practice questions (done in groups):  Download 10 - mean absolute deviation
  • HW workbook: p. 386 #12 - 17, 18 a/b, & 19 a/b

Wednesday 1/25  Review Unit 1 Chance of Winning

  • Checked the homework 
  • The daily checks from Tuesday were not that good, so I made sure to go over every problem in depth and then handed them back.
  • Review WS:  students got in to quads (groups) to work on a 10 problem worksheet.  We went over the answers in class.  Answers:  Download 11 - Chance of Winning Review ANSWER KEY 
  • Review ppt:  we then practiced more problems one at a time via PowerPoint Download 11 - Chance of Winning Review
  • HW:  study, review hw, review daily checks

Thursday 1/26  TEST Unit 1 Chance of Winning

  • TEST:  33 questions
  • The test will have:  counting principle, permutations, combinations, independent/dependent events, mutually exclusive/overlapping events, "and" "or", rolling 2 dice (make a table for the outcomes), decks of cards, probability, conditional probabilty, spinners, expected value, range, mean, median, mode, upper quartile, lower quartile, interquartile range, box & whisker graph, types of sampling, biases vs unbiased, and mean absolute deviation

  • Went over hw in great detail for 35 - 45 minutes.  We had students model the problems, rework the problems, ask questions, etc.  Students needed a better understanding and thus why the reason to go over the hw for so long.  14 out of 22 students in 1st period did not attempt a single problem.  There is a HUGE lack of effort from most of the students. 
  • Students took a few notes to help them out:  Download 3 - Characteristics of Graphed Piecewise Functions

GPS Algebra Week #18 12/19 - 12/22

Mon 19 - Median-Median Line (a better method)

Tues 20 - Review Unit 5

Wed 21 - no 4th period

  • 1st and 2nd period final exams

Thurs 22 - FINAL (Unit 5 TEST)

  • 20 multiple choice questions (similar to the quiz)
  • Do not write on the final exam
  • Use scratch paper, pencil, & calculator
  • Turn in Math 1 Textbook

*The Georgia State Department of Education has informed us that end-of-course test scores for all math courses will not be available until after the winter break. I expect to receive the scores on January 9, 2012, and I will enter the scores in Pinnacle on that day.*

Math EOCT Scores Delayed (Fall semester)

The Georgia State Department of Education has informed us that end-of-course test scores for all math courses will not be available until after the winter break. I expect to receive the scores on January 9, 2012, and I will enter the scores in Pinnacle on that day.
