10th Grade Blocks 1 & 4: SAT Practice. Unit 1 Vocab intro words 16-20. Quiz Friday. Block 1 worked in groups to identify all the elements of symbolism found in E. A. Poe's "The Masque of the Red Death" and discussed the story as an allegoy. Students then took a quiz. The next story in the unit was introduced by reading and discussing the article "Going to Extremes" from Reality Central. Block 4 recalled the elements of "Contents of the Dead Man's Pocket" in a class discussion, then worked in groups on an Indirect Characterization activity. Students shared their ideas with the whole class. Closure included a quick write relating the Essential Question to the story's character and theme. The Short Story Unit will end with a unit test on Friday. Please have your novel, The Hunger Games, in class with you on Friday and every day until the end of the Novel Unit.
9th Grade Block 3: EOCT Review B. Unit 1 Vocab intro words 16-20. Quiz Friday. Students read the article "Competing to Win" from Reality Central and discussed the benefits and drawbacks of competitive sports. They con't reading "The Most Dangerous Game" from the textbook and answered discussion guide questions as they read sharing their responses at the end of the reading. Groups of 4 worked on an Indirect Characterization Activity and shared their ideas with the whole class discussing how the main character is dynamic. Closure included a quick write relating character with the Essential Question. The Short Story Unit will end with a unit test on Friday.
