The remainder of this week we will be working on our musician web sites.  Your sites will need to have an animated intro page with and enter button.  After entering the site, you will need the following pages:

- Home page: navigation menu, band desciption, featured picture

- Photos: collection of photos

- Any 3 of the following:

    - Discography

    - Tour Dates

    - Merchandise

    - Biography

I apologize if yesterday's instructions were unclear.  I was hoping to make sure the files were in the correct location before school but had to go before finishing.  You should now be able to find RaceCar.fla and Race Car Instructions.doc in the AWD folder.

Use the remainder of class to begin/finish Race Car, then PSA's if necessary.

First, a words about staying on task...

From what I understand, about one third of you have been going straight to games when you have arrived in class.  Another third start playing games about halfway through class.  And one third of you have for the most part been on task all period.  To those of you that have not been completing assignments, don't plan on passing this class just by showing up.  It doesn't work that way.  Currently, about one third of you are not passing.  If you insist on failing this class, so be it.  And by the way, I wasn't kidding about the paper on "Why Today's Technology is Deteriorating the Attention Span of Today's Youth" (200 words, with proper works cited page).  Several of you are already on a list for playing games this week.  If you know you are on it, feel free to go ahead and get started on the paper since you already know how to find free time in class.  It will be due at the end of next week.  Incompletion will result in a lunch detention for each day your name made the list.

Journal Entry: Why is it important to be honest?

Hyperlink Unit 2 Assignments.

    Progress report grades will include all assignments on the Unit 2 Assignments document.   Save the file with the same name, "Unit 2 Assignments", just inside your class folder (not "classwork", but whatever you named your class folder, for example  "CA" or "Computer Apps") and hyperlink the listed files.  10 points will be deducted from any assignment not linked to the page.   

Portfolio Projects

    Complete portfolio project starting on p. 370 and ending on p. 373.  Save file as "U2 Portfolio Project" in "Projects" folder unless otherwise instructed in book.

Intro Web Design

It's time to update your Assignments Page - you will need to figure out file names

Add the following: Fireworks exercises (kiwi, welcome button, home button, and glassy text), search engines site, restaurant page, 10 Flash exercises (publish each and then link), Race Car, Bee Scene, Camp Website.  Progress reports grades on Tuesday will include all of these assignments.  20 points off for anything not linked with RELATIVE links.  No partial deduction.  Either it's linked correctly or not, so test it. 

After hyperlinking everything you have.  You may then begin the project below with a partner or by yourself. 

Student Awareness Project for Web Design

Objective - You will learn how to create a web site that provides information on a specific topic. You will work individually or as a team of two. You may decide.

Guidelines:

1. What's my topic? Pick a topic from the following list
Bullying and Harassment
Drug and Alcohol Abuse
Tobacco Usage
For Research--Look on right side of Resource Site for links (3rd Column, under picture of student)

2. Click here to view and print the Rubric. Click on Homework to view the questions you will answer to get content for your page.

3. Create a folder labeled with the name of the business. You will save all of your images and pages to this folder.

4. If you are working as a group you will need to fill the following jobs:

Designer – The team will design what the site will look like. Have them begin by answering the following questions:
• Who is the audience of the web site?
• What is the web site about?
• What is the purpose of the web site?
• What is a two or three sentence mission statement for the site?
• What are the navigation links the site will need?

Coder – The team will code (Use Dreamweaver, no need to hardcode)the site design. Begin with a template and “save as” to create additional pages that are navigation items (just like with the last two sites).
Researcher – The team will locate pertinent information for the client. Locate content specific to the topic. Students can use any resource available to them and must create a written document with specific content information. This job can be broken down to where each student researches navigation link content.
Editor – The team will review each others content for the web site.

5. Once you have each completed your jobs the web site will be ready for review. Review the rubric to see how you think you did.

Go to backgroundcity.com and find a background to apply to your summer camp site.  The purpose of a background is to give the page some variation but without taking the focus away from the foreground.

Ms. Therrell had good things to say.  Which I expected.  Thanks for staying on task the past few days. 

Open RaceCar.fla in U:/Jordan/AWD.  Save the file to your student drive.  Notice the library contents.  Follow instructions from step 2.  You will not need to make cars.  They are already in the library.  Be sure to use  separate layers.  For drawing the track, create a track layer and draw shapes, not objects.  The simplest way would be to draw long rectangles for straightaways and then adjoin them by moving/adding corners and curving edges.  Remember to do so, you will need to use the selection tool to hover over the edge of the shapes you've drawn.

Assignments for 3/4/09:

Today you are going to apply key controls with action script through conditional (if/then) statements.

First- Open your BeeScene.fla file.  Save it as BeeControls.fla in a folder called "Gaming" so we can make changes that will not effect your BeeScene.fla file.  

Second -  Delete your guide and sound layer.  If you don't have a sound layer it will take a few more steps to get rid of the buzz sound (you would have to figure out which layer the sound is on and move everything else in that layer to a new layer so you can delete the layer that would then have only have the sound remaining). 

Third - Review the code below.  Notice the syntax (the wording and sequence) of the code.  Line 1 tells the code between the brackets (line 2) to apply when the flash file loads.  In line 2the movespeed is declared.  You can experiment with that.  Line 5 tells the code between the following brackets to apply when the active symbol enters the frame.  "this" refers to the active symbol, so in our case the bee movie.  "x" refers to the x-axis (horizontal movement) and "y" refers to the "y" axis (vertical movement).  Be mindful of the difference between brackets } and parenthesis ).  Brackets surround instructions, parenthesis surround references.  Apply the screen captured code below to your bee movie.  Make sure you have the bee movie selected before going into the actions panel so that the code is applied to the movie, not a frame. 

If input correctly, you should have keyboard control of your bee movie with the up, down, left, right keys.  Once complete, continue to work on your PSA's.  You will need sound.  You can take turns with the four microphones in the closet behind my desk.  Or you can sample freeplaymusic.com for appropriate sound and edit it in Audacity.  If you are unable to download songs or have any questions or comments, post the link to the song or comments here and I will reply and/or get it on the U drive tomorrow. I realize most of you are not yet familiar with Audacity, but most of its functions are basic and you will likely find it user friendly.

After finishing Lesson 4 exercises from yesterday...

Complete Concept Review on page 329.  Use a blank excel spreadsheet.  Name it L4CR in your Lesson 4 folder that you should have created in Classwork for Lesson 4 exercises.  In Cell A1 enter Lesson 4 Concept Review.  Make it bold, and change the font size to 24.  Enter a 1 in cell A3 and a 2 in cell A4.  Then highlight both cells.  Next drag from bottom right of cell A4 and fill down to cell A13.  The numbers should have automatically counted to 10 for you.  Now enter the answers to the questions on p. 329, skipping #6.  Just type omit for #6. 

Complete Practice It and You Try It Activitites.  DO NOT OVERWRITE FILES.  Rename them as instructed.
