Following the completion of instruction over sentence patterns, the class complete yesterday's reading selections. Students are to complete the C.E.I. paragraphing activity for Frost's poem "Birches."
Following the Ap lit.terms quiz (#1), the class was introduced to the Blau technique of poetry analysis with "The Chimney Sweeper" poems, by William Blake. Tomorrow's class will be direct toward an introduction to and initial reading and discussion of The Ballad of the Sad Cafe. Class finished re-evaluations of the practice AP exam, and we will begin looking at several poems by William Blake, as well as reading and evaluating sample student essays, for the next few days. Any summer reading assignments not turned in today will receive a 10 point deduction per day. Also, students need to have their copies of Ballad of the Sad Cafe by Friday.
The main focus of today's class was on C.E.I. paragraphing practice, both with poems and paintings. Students are to complete the C.E.I. practice with the painting for homework. After a discussion over errors being noted in student persuasive essays and writing conference procedures for those student who wish to revise their essays for a higher grade, the class reviewed unit 1 vocab. (1-10) and practiced the inductive learning strategy as a means for the analysis of poetry, as well as an introduction to basic literary analysis paragraphing format. Reminder that the summer reading assignment is due tomorrow.
Class continued with the AP practice exam, as well as a brief review of the unit 1Sadler vocab. words (1-10). Reminder that the AP lit. terms quiz # 1 will be this Thursday. Before going to the media center to continue to work on finding secondary source material for the persuasive research paper, students were given an outline template to follow for their papers, and class instruction wqs geared toward annotation instruction and practice. Reminder that summer reading is due Jan. 24th, and students need to begin bringing their text to class next week.
Students began their 1st AP multiple choice practice exam today. Because we are in the writing lab tomorrow to work on the letters of intent, re-evaluations will be on Monday. As well, there was a quick review of the information covered in yesterday's class over sonnet instruction.

The focus of today's class was reading, discussing, and comparing the different types of sonnets. We will begin the 1st AP multiple choice practice exam tomorrow, which will take a few days. We will be in the writing lab on Friday to draft letters of intent. Students in 1st block who removed the text they used in class today need to return them. They are class sets, and are not issued to individual students. Thanks
After distribution and review of handouts related to the requirements for the research paper, the class finished the poetry terms info. search review, followed by time in the media center to look for secondary source material. Students should have their tentative thesis for the research paper by Friday.There is a typo on the class syllabus. It states the summer reading is due Feb. 24th, but the actual due date is Jan. 24th. Students should begin bringing their text to class next week.
