Due to the importance of work on research papers, the assessment / discussion for the 1st reading assignment for The Bluest Eye has been moved to next Monday; however, students are still expected to have completed the novel by Friday, Oct. 7th. As well, in-class work on the poetry teaching assignment and the bloom ball asignment has changed to Tuesday and Wednesday. I will be out of class on Thursday at an AP conference, so poetry presentations will begin on Oct.10th.

Class will be in the writing lab all this week working on one of the following: research papers, poetry teaching project, and bloom ball assignment for As I Lay Dying. Prep. for the Sadler unit 2 quiz will be out of class. Remider to have read pages 1-93 of The Bluest Eye by Friday.

Today's lesson consisted of a final assessment/discussion over As I Lay Dying, with a distribution of the Bloom ball assignment, which will be due on Oct. 7th. Also, students are to have read pages 1-93 of The Bluest Eye by next Friday. Classes will be in the writing lab all next week to work on research papers, poetry teaching assignment, etc.

The class began the 2nd practice multiple choice exam and will continue with the same process as the 1st practice exam. Students were also given the criteria/rubric for the poetry teaching project, which is attached, along with the instructions for the Blau portion of the assignment. Reminder that proclamation slides are due tomorrow. Please, be sure to save electronically, as well.

Students wrote their in-class literary analysis essays, followed by reviews for the AP lit. terms quiz # 2 on Thursday and the proclamation slide due Wednesday. Reminder that AILD should be completed by this Friday.

After the quiz for the 1st reading assignment for As I Lay Dying, students discussed the novel in groups, followed by a whole class discussion. Students should complete the reading of the novel by next Friday. The due date for the proclamation slide has been changed to next Wednesday.

After the Sadler unit 1 vocab. quiz, students either worked on preparations for the in-class essay on Monday or tomorrow's assignments for the 1st reading assignment for As I Lay Dying. The class also went to the media center to enter mentor information.

The class was engaged in a sonnet review before reviewing the major aspects (historical/literary) of the Victorian era with a reading and discusion of excerpts from Tennyson's elegy  "In, Memorium, A.H.H." We will continue with another Victorian writer tomorrow, Mathew Arnold, as well as go to the media center to log the mentor information for the Senior Project. Reminder about the vocab. quiz tomorrow and the discussion/short answer questions for Friday for As I Lay Dying.

The class focus today was on a review of the characteristics of the Modernist movement, followed by a reading, analysis, and discussion of Eliot's "Journey of the Magi." Students should, by Friday, be sure to place all notes pertaining to the works covered in class to date so as to be prepared for Monday's in class essay. After reviewing the last 20 words for the unit 1 vocab. quiz this Thursday, the class read/discussed "A Good Man is Hard to Find." Reminder that students should bring 5 salient/thoughtful discussion-short answer questions pertaining to As I Lay Dying on Friday. As well, classwill in the writing lab to work on research papers and the poetry teaching project Sept. 26-30. Any research papers turned in that week will receive extra credit.
